« Many titles of immense interest » by Blues in Britain

Let us imagine you want to put your pre-war blues recordings into a wider musical context – well, you could do far worse than buy the three CD French reissue set The Complete Louis Armstrong Volume 5 « Tight Like This » 1928 – 1931 (Frémeaux FA1355). The title indirectly references Tampa Red and Georgia Tom’s « It’s Tight Like That » and during the time span of this set, Satchmo accompanied blues diva Victoria Spivey, bluesy proto-country singer Jimmie Rodgers and dated crooner Seger Ellis. There is also plenty of hot (and often bluesy) jazz too, of course, with many titles of immense interest to lovers of any kind of New Orleans music – to whom of course this is highly recommended. The collective personnel includes guitar ace Lonnie Johnson and many, many of the jazz greats of this area. Norman DARWEN - BLUES IN BRITAIN
