Those readers enamoured of the swing-blues will be aware of the influence of Django Reinhardt on many jazz and blues guitarists, most notably BB King and, more recently, Duke Robillard. Angelo DeBarre is a Reinhardt disciple, and on Impromptu, there are plenty of those dazzling, lightning fast, single string runs and swinging chord sequences, whilst many numbers (there are eight Reinhardt compositions among the eleven tracks) also feature the violin of Chris Garrick, taking the Stéphane Grappelli role – with “Double Whiskey” very bluesy indeed. The sound quality is absolutely amazing!
