Enfin ! Evidemment ! Mais bien sûr ! Mais comment n’y avaient-ils pas pensé plus tôt ?
Autant d’interrogations, d’étonnements justifiés, tant la rencontre du vibraphoniste et de l’accordéoniste semble naturelle.
Les sonorités d’abord, celles de deux instruments dont les timbres se fondent si bien ensemble, et se complètent à merveille.
Le lyrisme ensuite, ce sens inné, intuitif, quasi vital de la mélodie, des jolies phrases, des belles harmonies.
Passionnant dialogue de deux grands musiciens auxquels se joignent les compagnons de toujours : le pianiste Georges Arvanitas et le guitariste Marc Fosset. Sans oublier Patricia Lebeugle à la contrebasse et Richard Portier à la batterie qui composent une rythmique aussi souple qu’efficace.
Entre swing et musette, jazz et java, Marcel n’en finit pas de «chauffer». De quoi exciter un Dany Doriz toujours prêt à s’enflammer.
Pour l’occasion, nos deux compères ont concocté un répertoire fait d’un savant dosage entre standards et compositions personnelles. Les premiers pour le plaisir toujours renouvelé de l’interprétation et les seconds pour l’humour, la fraîcheur et l’originalité.
L’évidence d’une telle complicité était à prévoir.  A quand la prochaine rencontre ?

At last! Obviously! But of course! But how come they didn’t think of it before?
All this ado about the meeting of the vibraphonist and the accordionist which we thought was so natural!
First is the sound of the two instruments whose tones merge together and complement each other.
Then, the lyricism: this innate, intuitive, quasi-vital sense of melody, of beautiful phrases and harmonies.
Here is a fascinating dialogue between two great musicians, backed by their old mates: pianist Georges Arvanitas and guitarist Marc Fosset. And let’s not forget Patricia Lebeugle on bass and Richard Portier on drums. The four of them make a flexible and efficient rhythm section.
Somewhere in between swing and polka, jazz and waltz, Marcel Azzola is hot, and keeps getting hotter. Hot enough to inspire Danny Doriz who is always ready to set the house on fire.
The two friends concocted a special repertory for this occasion: the right dose of standards for the pleasure of new interpretations, and personal compositions for humor, freshness and originality.
This duo was bound to sound great. So when are they getting together again?

« Jazzola » est la formule culte réunissant deux figures mythiques de la musique en France. D’un côté Marcel Azzola, la légende de l’accordéon, de l’autre Dany Doriz, le grand vibraphoniste héritier de Lionel Hampton et patron historique du Caveau de la Huchette, club de jazz référence. Une rencontre immortalisée en studio par Jean-Pierre Tahmazian pour Black & Blue en 1999. Aujourd’hui réédité, ce dialogue swingant entre les deux instruments est servi par une rythmique experte et sensible. Une carte postale du Paris sixties, tout en fraîcheur et saveurs. Le jazz et la java sont bien là !

“Jazzola” is the cult catchphrase that gathered together two legendary music figures in France. On the one hand, Marcel Azzola, the accordion master, and on the other, Dany Doriz, the great vibraphone player who carried on Lionel Hampton’s legacy and was the boss of the major Caveau de la Huchette jazz club as well. In 1999, this summit meeting was immortalised for Black & Blue at a studio session set by Jean-Pierre Tahmazian. Now reissued, this swinging dialogue between both instruments is assisted by an expert and sensitive rhythm section. Here is a fresh and savoury postcard from the Sixties in Paris. Jazz and java are right there!
