« The Golden Gate Quartet was formed 70 years ago and is still going strong, albeit with a different line up of singers. A few years ago French producer Patrick Frémeaux asked the Quartet, under the direction of Clyde Wright (who first joined the group as second tenor in 1954) to record the repertoire from The Good Book, a collection of gospel tunes first recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1958. The material could practically be referred to as "Gospel’s Greatest Hits" ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’, ‘Rock My Soul’, ‘The Battle Of Jericho’, ‘Ho Happy Days’, ‘Wade In The Water’, etc.) and the group does a fine job of presenting the songs in an a capella format. » DIRTY LINEN Presse américaine
