« Quite good » par Dirty Linen

There aren’t too many blues singers in France, but the few who do tap into that idiom are quite good at what they do ; Benoît Blue Boy is a French singer and harmonica player who has been involved with blue for 40 years. He recently went to Austin, Texas, to record en Amérique, which is a throw-back to various Gulf Coast styles of four decades ago, including Chicano R&B, Texas shuffle blues, swamp pop, zydeco, and New Orleans blues. Fans of such artists as Lazy Lester, Loe Barry, and the blue-eyed soul of The Boogie Kings should find this album to their liking. Except for a spanish « Blues in the night », all the songs are Blue Boy originals that are sung in French in a restrained style, sometimes with slurred vocals. The excellent backup band includes Al Gomez Jr., and Rocky Morales, who offer outstanding support on trumpet and tenor sax, respectively.
