"If you’re a fan of Django, you’ll want to collect this whole set. If you have merely a passing interest in his pioneering guitarwork, this is a great addition to your library, covering a variety of his most ambitious recordings." M.D. - VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE (USA)

“The ongoing effort by France’s Frémeaux label and discographer Daniel Nevers to document Django Reinhardt’s complete oeuvre of recordings has reached volume 16. This two-CD set of 41 tracks chronicles just a portion of Django’s work in 1948 alone. It’s a Herculean task that has rewarded fans with numerous rare, obscure, and unreleased recordings. Festival 48 is a jewel in the collection. It continues to document Django and Quintette du Hot Club de France’s various recordings for French radio, cuts that display a freedom of improvisation unhampered by strict recording studio arrangements. These are followed by nine surviving tracks from the historic 1948 Nice Jazz Festival – the world’s first jazz festival, where Django shared billing with Louis Armstrong, Earl Hines, Rex Stewart, and others. Also included is the 1948 Quintette concert in Bruxelles, recorded by Django and clarinetist Hubert Rostaing on their private tape recorder. Most importantly, there are two newly discovered tracks from a radio concert by Rostaing’s Sextette with Django. The collection ends with 13 tracks from the famed Rome sessions, which should fill out the forthcoming Volume 17 as well. If you’re a fan of Django, you’ll want to collect this whole set. If you have merely a passing interest in his pioneering guitarwork, this is a great addition to your library, covering a variety of his most ambitious recordings.” M.D. - VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE (USA)
